About Me

Hello, my name is Bill Shaud. Welcome to my general counseling practice. I am a psychotherapist / counselor who has spent more than forty years as a mental health professional struggling with individuals and families to define and resolve unique challenges each of us face.In thirty years working in an acute care unit (admissions service) at a local psychiatric hospital and more than twenty-five years of private practice I have literally experienced clinically every psychological wrinkle of the human experience. I have had the privilege to have extensive experience with an incredibly diverse client population as it pertains to age, culture/ethnicity and sexual orientation. I have spent many years under clinical supervision learning and practicing treatment in a variety of conceptual orientations, but primarily I subscribe to the cognitive-behavioral category of psychology. (Please see my Curriculum Vitae.)

I have attempted to frame out my thoughts, beliefs, and approaches developed over the course of my career in several primarily specialty areas in this web site, so please explore these. Counseling is an intensely personal process so finding a comfort zone with a professional you can connect with is crucial but not automatic. On that basis, I offer everyone a free consultation hour primarily as an opportunity to check me out. If you decide to explore a counseling process with me, we will then negotiate an hourly rate based on a generously sliding fee schedule. Counseling needs to be affordable to be possible and that is my basic negotiating philosophy.

If you are reviewing my web site, something is happening in your life that is uncomfortable and cause for concern. As a humanist, I know that the power to define and resolve the situation exists within you! Let me help you find that power!

You’re stuck, overwhelmed, and tired, and you need help finding your way forward.
